Light Up Middletown balloon glow reset

Event, needing certain weather conditions, now scheduled 7 p.m. Dec. 19.

MIDDLETOWN — Organizers are hoping for better weather for the annual hot air balloon glow at Light Up Middletown.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 after it was postponed because of inclement weather last week.

The balloon glow features several inflated hot air balloons that become giant holiday ornaments as a part of the Light Up Middletown display. It can only be held when winds are light, there is no rain or snow and the ground is fairly dry, organizers said.

Dr. Mark Frazer, balloon pilot and chair of the glow, invited several area pilots to join him to represent their own sponsors, MidUSA Ohio Challenge and the Middletown Journal for the special event.

Guests are invited to enter the Smith Park site off Tytus Avenue and drive around the reflecting pond to enjoy Light Up as they also enjoy the balloon glow.

Light Up Middletown is open from 6 to 10 p.m. through Dec. 31. Admission is by donation.
