The Moraine Airpark on May 5 will host the 60th anniversary of the Sunday Funday Fly-In, which bills itself as the nation’s longest running same day fly in.

The history of the airpark dates back decades, and it has hosted a number of famous people, according to organizers. Some of its highlights include:

• It is the first, oldest and longest-running seaplane base in the world.

• Moraine was the site of the first female parachute stack during an airshow. The group was called the “Falling Angels.”

•The Wright brothers began their hydroaeroplane (seaplane) experiments along the Miami River in Moraine and West Carrollton in 1912 and 1914 with more than 100 flights.
