Local LexisNexis employment at ‘all-time high’

DAYTON — Although LexisNexis is evaluating whether to shift customer service jobs from the U.S. to the Philippines, employment today at the information services company’s Miami Twp. campus is at a record high, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Company spokeswoman Pamela Rath said 3,400 employees work at the Miami Twp. campus off Ohio 741 just north of Springboro, which she called “an all-time staffing high.”

Still, layoffs continue to happen. Most recently, 15 employees were told their jobs would be affected, Rath wrote the Dayton Daily News in an e-mail.

“There were 15 people notified that their jobs were affected on Dec. 1, and we are providing a range of placement assistance, both inside and outside the company, along with support services to assist with their work transition,” Rath wrote. “LexisNexis has a long history of operations and innovation in Ohio and is committed to its presence at the Dayton site.”

She said the company “continuously reviews its needs, operations and other factors” to review staffing levels.

Last August, LexisNexis gave employees an internal memo saying that it was building “a customer service and support capability in the LexisNexis office in Manila, Philippines.”

The New York City-based company houses many of its customer service and other functions at the Miami Twp. locale.

However, the company has declined to say what impact, if any, the move will have on local employment.

According to the memo, LexisNexis opened the Manila office in February and had about 160 employees there.
