Dayton man swipes leaf blowers from groundskeeper, police says

A man is suspected of stealing a couple of leaf blowers from a groundskeeper’s truck Wednesday morning, according to a Dayton police report.

Police were dispatched at 11:36 a.m. to the 100 block of Valley Street, and were told by the groundskeeper that while he was working he noticed a male suspect grab two leaf blowers from the work trailer attached to his truck, according to the report.

The suspect, later identified as John C. Holzinger, 51, reportedly took the leaf blowers to a vehicle nearby and fled the scene down Valley Street and onto Rita Street, read the report.

The groundskeeper identified the license plate number of the vehicle, and with the assistance of Riverside police, officers found Holzinger in the 4200 block of Old Troy Pike.

Holzinger denied driving the vehicle during the theft. The stolen property was not found at the address, or within the vehicle, according to the report.

After the groundskeeper was brought to Old Troy Pike to identify the suspect, Holzinger was arrested under suspicion of theft, read the report. He was processed at Montgomery County Jail and is awaiting court action for his charge.
