Vega, a septet from Chaminade Julienne, also competed for the international competition but did not place.
At the competition, Forte’s Charlie Arthur won Best Vocal Percussionist in the nation.
Abbie Batson started the 12.5 minute performance by singing the lead to “Blown Away,” followed by Brandon Crichfield who headlined “Smash into You.” Micaela McCall sang the lead to the finisher, “Too Close.” Other competing members include: Owen Blodgett, Daniel Carter, Caitlin Cole, Anna Rose Flood, Julie Howell, Hunter Magill, Susie Meyer, Jeen Na, Alex O’Neil, Joe Otto, Whitney Scott, Gavin Smith and Hayley Zimmerman.
“It was fantastic. Forte is second in the nation, competing against the top 10 vocal groups in the country ,” said third-year Centerville choral director Ben Spalding. “This competition is based upon the tournaments in Pitch Perfect. They’re actually making a reality TV show of the collegiate version for next year.”
Forte will be on the road for the May 4 audition for season 4 of NBC’s “The Sing Off.” Then on Monday, May 13, there will be a Senior Recognition Concert at Centerville High School. For more information, go to www.centervillechoirs.org
Vega didn’t place, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of what they’ve achieved so far.
“We put every ounce of energy we had on that stage and we are proud of our performance,” said Vega member Madeline Brown, a senior. “Our group is only three years old and the future looks bright for Vega.”
Besides Brown, the soprano, the group includes senior alto Caitlin Pearn, senior tenor Andre Tomlinson, sophomore vocal percussionist Daniel Jackson, sophomore soprano Cassidy Aughe, sophomore alto Addi Helms, and sophomore bass David Marshall.
Next up for Vega is a trip to Nashville, Tenn. on May 4 where they also will audition for “The Sing Off.”
Locally, the group’s next public performance will be Thursday, May 16 at the free Picnic with the Pops outdoor concert hosted on campus at 505 S. Ludlow St.
