Man fatally shot during home burglary

Dayton police said they are investigating the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old man who was gunned down inside his own home.

The shooting happened Friday morning at a house East Maplelawn Drive.

Police said 55-year-old John Booker Sr., was shot to death after he walked in to his house during a burglary.

The victim's son, John Booker Jr., said he as close to his father and typically calls him. However, he decided to visit him on Friday. According to police, when the victim's son got to the house, he found his father with a gunshot wound to the chest.

John Booker Jr. said, "I found him on the stairs and I tried to revive him."

Police said they believe two men are involved in the fatal shooting. They also said they have no suspects yet.

"Hopefully, they will find the creeps who did this," John Booker Jr. said.

Sgt. Dan Mauch said, "We will bring the peopel to justice who did this."

Dayton homicide investigators have been called to a house after getting reports of a man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Medics and officers were called to the house at 137 East Maplelawn Drive late Friday morning.

A woman who lives nearby told police that she was waiting on the victim's son to come to the house. She said while she waiting, she saw two men go inside the victim's house and then heard what appeared to be wood breaking. That sound most likely was the sound of gunshots.

The woman then said the victim's son arrived, went into the house and found his father with a gunshot wound to the chest. The son then began to scream for help.

According to police, the woman then saw two men walking down the street toward a nearby alley.
