• Up to $9 million for the summer renovation of Elliott and Stoddard halls – the two oldest residence halls on Miami’s campus.
The project will include new accessible rest rooms. It also will use geothermal heating and cooling, which means students in those buildings for the first time will have the ability to have heating or cooling in their own room, despite the temperature in other rooms.
Bishop Hall was originally included in the summer renovation, but Miami has decided the project could not be completed in just one summer.
• Up to $5.6 million for upgrades to door security and fire safety at all residence halls. Along with new keyless entry, the project will ensure that doors to student rooms lock when they are closed. Miami expects this project to cost less than $5.6 million, said David Creamer, vice president of finance.
• Up to $5.6 million for upgrades to rooms at the Marcum Conference Center. The center also will be expanded to the north to offset the loss of rooms at the Miami Inn, which is being converted to student housing. Creamer said Miami loses conferences that might come to campus because the Marcum Center accommodations are out of date with twin-size beds in some rooms.
• Up to $3 million for fire suppression and electrical upgrades at Morris, Emerson and Tappan halls.
• Up to $1.85 million to replace the HVAC and chiller system at Havighurst Hall.
• Up to $1.5 million for HVAC replacement at the Harris Dining Hall.
• Up to $3.379 million for complete renovation of five instructional laboratories at Hughes Hall. Only $5,000 of local money will be used on the project.
The project costs include 10 percent of the cost for contingencies.
