Ice cream truck driver dies after crash in Huber Heights

The driver of an ice cream truck involved in a crash on Bellefontaine Road in Huber Heights Friday has died from his injuries, according to police.

The driver, identified as Jerry Gerner, 53, of Enon, was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital after the June 1 crash, but died from his injuries later that day, police said.

The driver of the sedan, identified as Timothy Yerion, 37, and one of the children in the sedan, a 5-year-old girl, have been treated and released from area hospitals.

A second child in the car, a 7-year-old boy, remains hospitalized at Dayton Children’s Hospital and is listed in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Four people, including two children, were taken to area hospitals following a crash between an ice cream truck and a car, Huber Heights police said.

The driver of the ice cream truck, only identified as a man, was taken by a CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital, police said. His injuries are believed to be serious.

Three people, including two children, were inside the car when the crash occurred. All three were transported by ground ambulances to hospitals but their conditions were unknown.

Injuries to at least one person are believed to be serious following a crash between an ice cream truck and a car on Bellefontaine Road in Huber Heights Friday.

A CareFlight medical helicopter was requested to transport at least one person from the scene. Four ground ambulances were also requested.

Two of the injured are believed to be juveniles, according to initial reports.

FIRST REPORT

A medical helicopter has been requested to a reported serious crash on Bellefontaine Road in Huber Heights Friday afternoon.

The crash was dispatched around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Bellefontaine and Artz roads, according to emergency scanner traffic.

One CareFlight medical helicopter has been requested and at least four ground ambulances are on the way, initial reports indicate.
