Meeting on Bellbrook pet limit is March 1

Bellbrook’s Planning Commission has scheduled a March 1 public hearing on whether the city’s zoning ordinance should be changed to allow residents to keep more pets at home.

The current rules limit residents to two cats or two dogs or one of each. Only four residents were cited for violations in 2009, but city officials have said they are aware many more residents exceed the limit, some of whom didn’t know the restriction existed.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 1 in the City Council chambers, 15 E. Franklin St., and the Planning Commission will consider raising the limit from two to three.

Bellbrook zoning officer Eileen Minamyer said the city will advertise the meeting through public notices and on the city television channel, and will send letters to residents who live within 300 feet of the two families who asked the city to change the ordinance.
