Other candidates were Tipp City Mayor Tim Evans and Gary Seitz of Elizabeth Twp.
“I am very confident she’ll be a very good treasurer,” John “Bud” O’Brien, county Republican chairman, said of Quillen.
Sixty-four of 75 central committee members eligible to vote showed up for the Monday evening meeting.
Callison, of Piqua, worked in the treasurer’s office 32 years — the last 18 as the elected treasurer.
The appointment means Quillen will serve as treasurer until the November 2010 election when someone will be elected to complete the final two years of Callison’s last term.
Callison had been elected to a new four-year term last November. Quillen said she plans to run for the two years next fall and then for a full term in 2012.
She has been Concord Twp. fiscal officer since April 2000 and clerk-treasurer for the southwest Miami County village of Potsdam since April 2004. She previously worked as bookkeeper for the Shipman, Dixon and Livingston law firm in Troy and in the offices of Dr. Peter Nims.
Quillen, following Monday’s appointment, said she thinks her government finance experience was “important” in her selection.
“The most important thing for me to do is meet the staff and learn everything I can from them,” she said.
Her husband, Steve, is director of the Miami County Board of Elections. They live in Concord Twp.
