Huffman says he’ll run for re-election

State Rep. Stephen Huffman, R-Tipp City, is going for another term in 2016.

Huffman represents the 80th District, which includes all of Miami and southern Darke County.

“I have greatly enjoyed the first term in office. We have lowered taxes, passed education reform and reduced government regulations,” he said Monday. “I look forward to being re-elected to continue to work on the Ohio House 2020 plan and the four pillars of health care, education, energy and competitiveness.’

A 1983 graduate of Milton-Union High School, Huffman attended the University of Toledo on a football scholarship. He then earned a medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo, School of Medicine).

He was elected Miami County coroner in 2012. STAFF REPORT

Officials to discuss electronic poll books

Miami County elections administrators will meet next week with the county commissioners to discuss the elections board’s purchase of electronic poll books.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 24, was requested by the commissioners. The elections board was told at its Nov. 13 meeting that the price of the poll books selected has increased by about $19,000, but also now includes three years’ licensing.

Board member Robert Huffman Jr. asked elections administrators to talk with other counties already using the poll books to learn about pros and cons and ensure there is adequate training. The Miami County board is looking at using the poll books at the March primary election. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
