Soap Box Derby movie to be shown at museum

The Museum of Troy History will show a home movie of the 1957 Troy Soap Box Derby on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

This was the first Soap Box Derby in Troy. The event was organized by the Troy Noon Optimist Club and was called the Opti-Derby.

The 8 mm home movie is about 15 minutes long and will be shown continuously during the open hours Sunday at the museum located at 124 E. Water St., Troy. The event is free. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Annual Halloween parade is Wednesday

The annual Piqua Kiwanis Halloween Parade will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, beginning with costume judging at 6:15 p.m. in the Unity Bank parking lot. The parade will begin at 7 p.m.

Costumes will be judged for children up to age 14 in 11 categories. First- through third-place winners will be selected in each category and two grand prizes will be awarded. Prizes and treats will be given to children at the parade’s conclusion on the front porch of the YMCA. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

TIPP CITY

Deadline for ornament contest is Nov. 16

Tipp Monroe Community Services will hold an ornament contest reflecting the theme “Plaid Tidings” of this year’s Tipp City Holiday Home Tour.

Ornaments should be submitted to the community services office at 3 E. Main St. by Nov. 16. They will be displayed during the Dec. 5 home tour. Winners will be determined by popular vote. The participant fee is $5 with proceeds supporting the Tipp City Area Arts Council.

For those looking for inspiration for their ornament project, ornament parties are planned by TMCS at the Rusty Harden Studio on Nov. 6 and 13.
