In a press release posted on the Miami University website, President Dennis R. Santoli cited “continual failure to uphold the high standards of Sigma Chi and frequent engagement in highly inappropriate behavior” among reasons for the chapter’s suspension.
“Miami supports the decision by the Sigma Chi International Fraternity to suspend the chapter’s charter. Student organizations are expected to provide opportunities for the development of students in an educational and safe environment,” Santoli said.
“That was not the case at Miami’s Sigma Chi chapter. Representatives have worked together with Miami staff for several years to try to improve the culture of the chapter. We appreciate the efforts of the international fraternity in its decision to suspend the chapter,” he said.
