Miami University airport awarded grant to extend taxiway, add lighting

OXFORD — Miami University’s airport was awarded nearly $60,000 for improvements from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The grant was part of $6.5 million awarded to 15 airports in Ohio, U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, announced Friday, July 2. The funding is for airports to improve and restore operations.

Miami plans to use the funds of $59,327 to extend a taxiway and install apron lighting at its airport, located on Fairfield Road just west of Oxford, according to Voinovich’s office.

The Miami University Airport was built in 1944.

Also in Butler County, Middletown Regional Airport was awarded $300,000, which manager Rich Bevis said would be used to upgrade the Hook Field municipal airport’s sanitary sewer system.
