Miami University Alumni Weekend celebrates connection between Miami, Oxford community

OXFORD — The Miami University Alumni Association’s annual Alumni Weekend is moving Uptown.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, the Uptown Welcome Back Party will be held in Uptown Park. Miami alumni will have the opportunity to relive and revisit the sights, sounds and tastes of Oxford.

The Uptown Welcome Back Party includes a street party with food, music and dancing. The Campus Owls Tribute Band, followed by a DJ playing music from throughout the years, will provide entertainment. Later in the evening, reunion classes will host class parties in various Uptown locations.

Michelle Martin Rosecrans, associate director of the Alumni Association, worked closely with the City of Oxford to have some of the weekend festivities include Oxford, as the city plays a big part of the Miami college experience.

“The Uptown Party is a celebration of the connection between the Oxford community and Miami University,” Rosecrans said, “and we wanted to make sure we acknowledged and celebrated that link.”

Rosecrans and the Alumni Association encourage all members of the Oxford community to join the party.

Not only will Miami alumni follow the red bricks home to Oxford and Miami’s campus to celebrate reunions, many of the Miami family are also here to give back to the Oxford community, once again recognizing the Miami and Oxford bond.

Join members of the Class of 2001 for an Alumni Weekend community service project at the Oxford Community Art Center (formerly Ox College) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18. Work will include interior and exterior cleanup and prepping for paint.

Alumni Weekend runs from June 16-19. For more information, including a schedule of events, and to find out how to get involved, go online to www.miamialum.org/alumniweekend, or call the Alumni Office at (513) 529-5957.
