Sgt. Larry Cornett of the Clearcreek Twp. Police Department said the man’s wife was notified of his death, but police wanted to inform the man’s son, who is in the military, before releasing his name.
The man was the driver of a Ford Taurus, the at-fault vehicle in the accident, Cornett said.
Cornett said witnesses said the Taurus was traveling eastbound on Ohio 122 at about 45 miles per hour — in the 55 mph zone — when it drifted left of center and collided with a pickup truck.
Three passengers in the Taurus were transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. William Ray, Harry Workman and Joey Guenther, all of Middletown, were listed in critical condition Monday night, Cornett said.
The driver of the pickup truck, William Back, of Lebanon, refused transportation at the scene and he was taken to a local hospital by a relative, Cornett said.
The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. and Ohio 122 was closed until 6 p.m., police said.
