A Xenia woman is facing two counts of child endangering after two children she is accused of leaving home alone jumped out of a second-story window.

According to a Xenia police report, Brittany Butler, 28, left  her 7-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son home alone in an apartment Wednesday morning. The boy told police he and his sister jumped out of the second-story window to get out of the apartment.

Officers attempted to call Butler, but she didn’t answer. Twenty-minutes later, she called back and said “Oh they woke up?” and told police she had left with her friend to look for a cat, according to the report.

Butler flagged down the medic and said she didn’t want her children going to the hospital, but she was told they would be going regardless. She was then arrested.

Butler appeared in court this morning where she entered a plea of not guilty.

The children suffered minor injuries. They were treated and released from the hospital.
