Dog licenses now on sale

Dog owners can purchase their Montgomery County dog licenses now through Feb. 1.

Owners whose dogs have been spayed or neutered will pay a $20 license fee. Owners whose dogs have not been altered will pay $24 per dog license.

In addition, a “lifetime” dog license is available for purchase only at the Auditor’s Office for $200 (altered) or $240 (unaltered).

Licenses are available online at www.mcohio.org/dogs, at Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith’s Office, the Animal Resource Center and numerous outposts.

Proceeds from dog license sales ensure that the Animal Resource Center can care for stray and lost animals, spay and neuter every animal that leaves the center as an adopted pet and provide animal control services throughout the county. STAFF REPORT

Pantry accepting holiday donations

Helping Hands Food Pantry is asking for donations to help feed 450 families on Christmas Day.

Helping Hands, which is celebrating its 50th year, will be accepting non-perishable food items, as well as, financial donations for their Christmas food basket distribution. The baskets will be assembled according to family size and will contain enough food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The baskets will be distributed on Dec. 19 at the pantry, 224 E. Maple Avenue, Miamisburg to all pre-registered families. STAFF REPORT.

Children’s Choir schedules holiday concert

The Kettering Children’s Choir will perform “Celebrate!” — a community holiday concert — on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 4:30 p.m. at Kettering Seventh Day Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3939 Stonebridge Road

Admission is free, but audience members are asked to bring canned goods for local food pantries.

The Thursday, Dec. 10, Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners meeting scheduled for 9:30 a.m. has been moved to 10:30 a.m.

Foundation names scholarship for mayor

Miamisburg Mayor Dick Church Jr. has been recognized by the Miamisburg Schools Education Foundation with a scholarship named in his honor.

The Richard C. Church Jr. Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is pursuing a course of study with majors and minors in public administration, business, humanities, or social sciences.

Former Miamisburg schools Superintendent Carl Berg said the honor is in recognition of the seven-time mayor’s many years of service to the community and the foundation. Berg pledged to donate $500 to the scholarship each year for the next 10 years. He challenged the community to also honor Church by donating to this scholarship fund, as well. STAFF REPORT

Northmont school board to meet Monday

The Northmont Board of Education will meet Monday at 5 p.m. The board will meet at Union Elementary, 418 W. Martindale Road, Union.

A resolution will be presented to bill the state for more than $430,000 (per year) that has been designated for failing charter schools. STAFF REPORT

Christmas market Dec. 12-13 at German club

Christkindlmarkt, a German Christmas market featuring craft vendors and German holiday foods and beverages, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Dayton Liederkranz Turner, 1400 E. Fifth St., Dayton.
