Airpark to host fly-in Sunday

Moraine Airpark will host a fly-in on Sunday.

The free event, tabbed as the nation’s longest running same day fly-in, is set to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the airpark, located at 3800 Clearview Road.

Hannah’s Treasure Chest clients to benefit from diaper drive

Hannah’s Treasure Chest has announced that nine area Once Upon a Child stores will hold a special diaper drive day to help children served by Hannah’s Treasure Chest in the Dayton area and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank in the Cincinnati area. Shoppers will receive a bonus when donating five or more diapers Saturday. In addition, all stores will remain drop-off locations for diaper donations in the future.

MIAMISBURG

City’s annual quilt show is today, Saturday

The annual Miamisburg Quilt Show will be presented by the volunteer members of the “Material Girls Quilt Guild” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. The show will be held at the First Church of God, 446 Heincke Road, Miamisburg.

The show will feature over 100 new and heirloom quilts, two raffle quilts, a free quilting demonstration, quilt art jewelry, quilt shop vendors, lots of door prizes and craft items made by the guild members.

Grand prize is a basket of 24 yards of batik fabric. Home cooked lunches are available via the women of the First Church of God from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

Admission is $5 for both days at the door only. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Handicap accessible.

Proceeds from the 2015 quilt show supported the following local charities: Blessings in a Bag, Hannaha’s Treasure Chest and Helping Hands. STAFF REPORT

VANDALIA

City planting tree today in recognition of Arbor Day

The City of Vandalia is taking Buckeye pride a step further by planting a Buckeye Tree at Helke Park, 888 Randler Ave., as a part of its Arbor Day festivities today. The public is invited to attend the official ceremony, which will be at 1 p.m.

In 2015, Vandalia earned the designation of a Tree City USA. This Arbor Day event is done in conjunction with our Tree City, USA designation.

The tree is being planted in an area that was devastated by the Emerald Ash Borer. Last year, the city took out several trees at Helke due to the ash borer infestation, and many more around the region in the past few years. STAFF REPORT

County walk for autism awareness is Saturday

The 2016 Walk-Run 4 Autism Awareness, sponsored by the Autism Society-Dayton Chapter, will be held on Saturday.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.; the race starts at 9 a.m. for runners and 9:15 a.m. for walkers. It will be held at Payne Recreation Center, 3800 Main St., Moraine.

In addition to raising autism awareness, the event also serves as a resource fair for families. All of the money raised from the walk stays in the local area supporting the Family Grant program.

Local authors to appear at library

Washington-Centerville Public Library is hosting its 2nd Monday Authors series from 1-3 p.m. May 9 in the Centerville Library lobby, 111 W. Spring Valley Road.

The authors scheduled to appear are:

  • Joseph Reitz, a Kettering resident and co-founder of Inner Light Associates. His book being featured is "Parkinson's as a Spiritual Journey."
  • Lena M. Arnold, a Montgomery County resident and award-winning author of several books. Her featured book is "For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility."
