More than 1,000 volunteers are expected to hit the streets today to perform at least 100 service projects in Montgomery and Miami counties.
The event, LoveDayton 21015, is being organized by representatives of local churches, businesses and civic groups, according to Garth Adams, the network’s spokesman.
The purpose of the event is allow volunteers to give back to their communities by doing neighborhood cleanups, performing minor repairs, participating in beautification projects and other community service projects.
Work is scheduled to begin this morning at 8:30 a.m. at several locations, including Stepping Stones, 215 Burkhardt Ave.; Dayton Christian Center, 1352 W. Riverview Ave.; Rosa Parks Early Learning Center, 3705 Lori Sue Ave.; Blairwood Elementary, 1241 Blairwood Ave.; One Bistro, 110 S. 2nd St. in Miamisburg; and the Bethany Center, 339 South St. in Piqua.

Northmont to hold pep rally
The community is invited to help the Northmont City School District cheer on the district’s state champion Academic Challenge Team.
The school board will be holding a pep rally during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Northmont Middle School, 4810 W. National Road.
The team, which includes Sam Blizzard, Kara Combs, Brendon Jenkins, Lauren Papp and Rachel Tracy, has won three consecutive state championships, according to Jenny Wood, district spokeswoman. KELLI WYNN

City to host party for Wright
The city of Brookville will host a retirement open house in honor of outgoing City Manager John Wright.
The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday at Golden Gate Park, 545 E. Upper Lewisburg-Salem Road, according to Sonja Keaton, assistant city manager.

Children’s book drive in progress
All Dayton-area Grismer Tire shops are collecting new and gently used children’s books as a part of a book drive for less fortunate children in the Miami Valley.
The tire company is partnering with the Dayton Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi and Project READ for the book drive.
Donated books can be dropped off at any Dayton-area Grismer Tire location through June 15. The books collected will be included in the Food Bank’s “Good-to-Go” backpacks, which are filled with food and passed out to children in need on Fridays at their schools.

Board doesn’t support Hithergreen rezoning
Washington Township’s Zoning Commission recommended denial to trustees of a rezoning request for 5900 Hithergreen Drive in a 3-2 vote.
The Washington Twp. Board of Trustees and Chapel Development, LLC signed a purchase and sale agreement for the property for $950,000 on March 27, but the agreement is contingent upon the township trustees approving the rezoning of 14.89 acres of land.
Trustees will hold a public hearing and vote on the zoning request at their June 1 meeting at Rec West, 965 Miamisburg-Centerville Road. LAUREN CLARK

City to host Farmers Market in June
The city of Trotwood is seeking vendors for this year’s Farmers Market.
This year’s market will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday, starting June 13, at the corner of Shiloh Springs Road and Salem Avenue. The market will end on Sept. 26.
Vendors selling food, art, fresh produce, and crafts are asked to register at the city’s government center, 3035 Olive Road or online on the Parks and Recreation page at www.trotwood.org. Entertainers are also encouraged to register.
