The Moraine Police Department went on an extra special undercover mission: surprise holiday shoppers and pay for their gifts.

The two day-event — Blue Christmas — was in collaboration with Walmart and police to spread some holiday spirit.

On the first day, police went “undercover” as Walmart employees and approached unsuspecting Walmart shoppers to help them finish up their holiday shopping — and then pay the bill.

The second day the department dressed up as elves and Santa’s helpers and gave shoppers three minutes to pick out as many gifts as possible.

Santa even helped join in on the holiday cheer and gave out gift cards to shoppers.

“It was hectic; it was crazy,” said Deputy Chief Jason Neubauer in a video shared on the department's Facebook page. “We had a great time and a lot of fun.”
