MORE: UPDATE: Jury finds Brooke Skylar Richardson not guilty on murder charge
Aarianna Melvin, 21, was issued a summons to appear in court on charges of drug possession and child endangering.
Her boyfriend was arrested on a temporary protection order violation, according to a Dayton police report.
Once officers were able to enter the Midway Avenue residence, they discovered suspected drugs.
“It was then discovered there was a hazardous situation in the residence due to fentanyl being present,” police said in a statement. “After evidence was collected, housing inspectors declared the residence uninhabitable and coordination was made to have a qualified hazardous materials clean up company respond to clean the residence.”
According to police records, Melvin took two children described as babies to the firehouse on West Third Street in Dayton after they got into a substance that appeared to be heroin and overdosed.
Dispatch received a call from officers at the scene around 9:30 a.m. requesting that the hazardous materials team meet them at the residence.
“Two children have reportedly overdosed on illegal drugs inside a Dayton house before an adult took them to a nearby fire station for help,” according to dispatch records.
The two children, whose ages were not immediately known, were transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment. The two children remain in the hospital, however, their conditions were not released Thursday afternoon.
It was not clear how the children were able to access the drugs, and residents were shocked to learn of the alleged overdose.
Earl Clark said, “I was over here hooking up my speakers, I seen them come out and take off down that way.”
Added neighbor Darlene Kelly, who said she’s praying for both kids to get better, “I have little grand-kids, so it’s sad, just sad, I hope the baby is OK, though.”
