Muldowney resigns; board taking applicants

TIPP CITY — A new board of education member is being sought following the resignation of John Muldowney, who is moving to Milwaukee for a new job.

Muldowney, the board’s senior member, was elected in 2003.

He announced his plans to resign at the end of July during the school board’s July 26 meeting.

The remaining board members are charged with selecting someone to fill Muldowney’s seat until Dec. 31, 2011.

The seat will be on the ballot in November 2011. The board has 30 days to make an appointment, district Treasurer Joe Smith said.

Anyone interested in the board appointment is asked to contact Superintendent John Kronour for an application. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 13 with interviews of applicants planned the following week.

An appointment will be made at the Aug. 23 board meeting, board President Kate Johnsen said.

Muldowney moved from Chicago to Tipp City 25 years ago to work at Hobart Corp. in Troy. Most recently, he has been working as a consultant.

His new job is vice president of marketing for a Milwaukee cooking equipment company.

“I want to thank everybody here. I have enjoyed working with you,” Muldowney said.

“I wish the parents and students all the best.”

Johnsen thanked Muldowney for his service, saying he would “often bring a different viewpoint” to board discussions.
