Municipal court delays jury trials, suspends jail transfers because of coronavirus

Miamisburg Municipal Court is delaying jury trials until Aug. 21 and suspending Montgomery County jail inmate transports because of COVID-19.

These changes were outlined in a letter posted on court’s website Friday.

There have been no positive cases of the coronavirus in the county jail in Dayton, but the “court is taking every precaution to ensure public safety while continuing essential court operations,” according to the letter.

In April, it was ordered that facemasks must be worn by those doing business with the court.

That order, filed by Judge Robert Rettich III, states “all litigants, plaintiffs, defendants, attorneys, witnesses and observers entering the courtroom, probation department, or the public area of the clerk of court’s office shall at all times wear a facemask covering the individual’s mouth and nose.”

The municipal court covers Germantown, German Twp., Miami Twp., Miamisburg and West Carrollton.
