Muse Machine offers an artistic outlet for learning

Many of our elementary schools participate in a fun and entertaining activity that helps students integrate the arts into the academic curriculum. Through participation in The Muse Machine, students have the opportunity to work with Michael Lippert, director of the Muse Machine elementary program.

Lippert is an arts integration consultant who works with teachers and students to create original performance pieces that help students communicate and learn grade-level curriculum concepts.

In the past, students at our elementary schools have designed theatrical performances around the academic concepts of fractions, punctuation, time, forms of matter, landforms and parts of speech. These are all important skills students need to know, according too the Ohio’s Academic Content Standards in science, social studies, mathematics, and language arts.

Additionally, research shows that student participation in the arts helps close the achievement gap, enhances learning and achievement for young children including economically disadvantaged students and students needing remedial instruction, and helps prepare a creative workforce.

One of the highlights of our students’ participation in The Muse Machine is the public performances given to parents, families and other students at the conclusion of the program.

The public performances give students the opportunity to demonstrate to their families and classmates the material they have crafted with Mr. Lippert. These theatrical performances showcase the original work of the students and illustrate all they have learned and created.

Muse Machine activities are funded through grants and through the generosity of our elementary parent-teacher organizations.
