Naked toddler found wandering in alley

A 2-year-old boy was transported to Dayton Children’s Medical Center Tuesday morning after he was found wandering naked in an alley off of Chambers Street.

According to a Dayton Police incident report, University of Dayton officers located the boy at about 10 a.m. after getting reports that a small child was walking alone in the area. A resident on Chambers provided officers with a bath towel to wrap the boy in.

Medics were called because the child had numerous injuries including a bump on his forehead, scrapes on his legs, several scratches and what appeared to be insect bites, according to the report.

Just as medics arrived, police located the boy’s mother on Alberta Street. She said she must have dozed off while watching the boy and he may have gone out the front door. She said the bruise on his head was from bumping it on the stairs a few days earlier. When police asked why the boy was naked when it was 61 degrees outside, she said he always takes his clothes off, according to the report.

Children Services was notified of the situation, but it was unknown Tuesday evening if the boy was removed from his mother’s custody or not. She was ordered to appear in court on a possible misdemeanor endangering children charge.
