New community market coming to Clayton

Clayton is offering folks a special Sunday shopping opportunity just before Christmas, and on a few key dates afterward, too.

The city is partnering with the Northmont Community Market to host a winter market. Clayton city officials said this will be one of the only such markets in the Miami Valley.

The winter market will be open on Dec. 22, Jan. 26, Feb. 23 and March 22 — all Sundays — from noon to 4 p.m. The market will be indoors at the Meadowbrook at Clayton, 6001 Salem Ave.

The Northmont Community Market, an outdoor farmer's market, runs from June to October.

The city wanted to give the vendors business during the winter months, too, said Jack Kuntz, the director of development for Clayton. Kuntz said he hopes people from all over the Miami Valley will come out for this event and support the vendors and artisans at the market.

“These are vendors who live in the community,” he said. “They are your neighbors and family.”

Tasha Jenkins, manager of the Northmont Community market, said there will be about two dozen vendors at the first winter market in December. Vendors will bring handmade jewelry, seasoning, candles, croceted items and baked goods to the ballroom at Meadowbrook.

The first market will be just days before Christmas, so families who still need to get last minute shopping done can use the market, Kuntz said. There will be about two dozen vendors, Kuntz said.

Those who don’t want to shop can eat or drink at The Grill at Meadowbrook or try Meadowbrook’s new indoor Golf Simulators.

The Clayton Parks Commission will also put on free activities for children at the market, Kuntz said, like holiday cookie decorating and holiday crafts.

“There really will be something for everybody,” Jenkins said. “This is going to be a really family-friendly event.”
