K’s Restaurant owner in Brookville thanks community, says she will retire

The K's Restaurant in Brookville, which a police chief said suffered "significant damage" in a July 3 fire, will not reopen, the restaurant announced this week on its Facebook page.

A message directed to “customers and friends,” and written on behalf of owner Donna Windham, said, “Although we are working hard to make repairs, after much thought and consideration, Donna has decided not to reopen the restaurant and to retire.”

“We want to take this time to say thank you to all of our wonderful customers that have supported us through out the years. K’s was a gathering place for many families. K’s was a place where people celebrated new life, birthdays, weddings and everything in between. We can’t thank our customers enough for the support you have shown us.”

Those with gift cards can redeem the cards at The Sugar Shoppe Bakery at 209 Market St. in Brookville, which will “keep our pie recipes going,” the K’s Facebook page said. K’s Restaurant in Brookville is not to be confused with similarly named but separately owned and operated K’s Hamburger Shop in Troy.

The announcement triggered a wave of support and sorrow from former customers who commented on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“So many great memories great food,” one commenter said. “Great talks... I will miss the lasagna... Chef salad... I love the French dressing. Who will make my lasagna? Donna I wish you all the best of luck, and your wonderful staff ... It always felt so good walking in the doors and everyone saying hi.”
