New Vienna man killed in Clinton County wreck

A 33-year-old New Vienna man died in a single-vehicle accident Friday evening on Beatty Road in which he was ejected.

Wesley Mercer was headed east in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when he apparently drove off the left side of the road, over-corrected and drove off the right side of the road just after 5 p.m., according to the Wilmington post, Ohio Highway Patrol.

The truck overturned and Mercer was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene, according to the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.

Mercer was not wearing a seat belt, according to the preliminary investigation, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the state patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, and Clinton- Highland Joint Fire & EMS.
