New way to protect yourself from scams

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a statewide multimedia initiative aimed at protecting Ohioans from scams and fraud Friday morning.

The Ohio Protects campaign will use a website, television commercials, and social media to inform the public about scams.

The dedicated micro site will allow consumers to research fraud, investigate businesses, and file complaints, according to the DeWine.

“If it works the way we hope it works, there will be fewer Ohioans out there getting ripped off,” said DeWine.

The website is live now and Ohioans will begin seeing the television commercials, which target the IRS scam, home improvement scams, and computer repair scams, on Monday.

Consumer reporter Rachel Murray will have more on this story tonight starting at 5 p.m. on News Center 7.
