Old-time diner using iPads to take orders

Servers at Eaton Place are spending more time with customers and less time worrying about getting orders placed.

New technology is providing more organization for the diner at 125 Eaton Lewisburg Road, which has been around 41 years. Using iPad minis, servers are using their fingers to touch photos of food and beverages ordered by customers.

The software delivers orders to the kitchen and provides an array of reports, including an end-of-the-day tally for managers.

Server Jan Koeller has been at the diner for 7 years and said issues she had with carpal tunnel have lessened as a result of putting an end to hand-written orders.

The diner has used the new technology since Feb. 1 and owners said the biggest obstacle was getting such a large menu entered into the system.
