Pancake house creating its Legacy

The Legacy Pancake House & Restaurant, located in Dayton, serves more than pancakes.

Although breakfast is served all day, their reasonable prices attract a dedicated lunch crowd as well. Ten-ounce burgers and oversize sandwiches are featured daily.

The restaurant opened in 2007 and is owned by Sam Kourlas with business partner, Louie Polus. It seats about 200.

“Both Louie and Sam are Greek and we try to have a Greek menu item on Thursday and Sunday,” manager Gary Manos said.

The restaurant appreciates its core base of customers and always welcomes a chance to connect.

“We play trivia every day, when time allows, with a lot of the patrons,” Manos said. “If they win, they get a couple Peppermint Patties. Come in and give us a try.”

What: The Legacy Pancake House & Restaurant, 1510 N. Keowee St., Dayton

What the business does: The eatery serves breakfast all day. The best sellers include the Legacy burger and Greek chicken lemon rice soup.

“Our portions are very generous and we are aware of the economic crisis,” Manos said. “We try to keep our prices down. Our broasted chicken is excellent.”

What makes the business stand out: “Everything is homemade. We have different soups every day,” Manos said. “Our Greek food is very authentic. It’s one of the few places you can get a sit down meal that isn’t fast food. No one leaves hungry.”

How the business started: “The owners used to come here (when it was the Golden Nugget), and they were always impressed,” Manos said. “It was the kind of menu they liked. When the owner died they moved their business to Dorothy Lane, and Sam and Louie purchased it and changed the name to Legacy.”

Interesting fact: “We open early and in bad weather we get the DP&L crew who were working all night,” Manos said. “We also get a lot of truck drivers who are waiting for businesses to open. Hopefully we’re a benefit.”
