Police looking for suspect in shooting that sends 1 victim to a hospital

UPDATE @ 8:12 p.m.: Police are searching for the suspect who shot a man who was sitting in his SUV at the Whitney Young Estates apartments on Germantown Pike (state Route 4) in Dayton, police said.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, drove off after he was shot and ended up in a ditch in the 4300 block of Germantown Pike.

Police tell us the man’s gunshot wound is not life threatening.

INITIAL REPORT

Dayton police are investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the 4100 block of Germantown Pike (state Route 4), near the Whitney Young Estates, that sent one person to a hospital.

A caller to 911 reported a shooting about 6:47 p.m., according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

The victim, believed to be a male, suffered a gunshot wound to the ear.

He was conscious and breathing when police found him. We’re hearing he was found in an SUV that came to rest in a ditch in the 4300 block of Germantown Pike, in Jefferson Twp.

Police did find shell casings in their investigation.

We’re checking to learn whether police have a suspect or a person of interest. We will update this developing report.
