Kenneth Mounce suffered one gunshot, Chief Mark Ater said Friday evening.
Mounce was shot around 7 p.m. in a Taffy Court apartment, but not inside the unit where he lived.
The Union City Ohio Police Department along with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the death as a homicide.
The case also has been referred to the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible charges, Ater said.
UPDATE @ 10:50 p.m.:
The death of the 18-year-old male found shot in a Taffy Court apartment is being investigated as a homicide, Union City, Ohio, Police Chief Mark Ater said.
“As of right now, we are looking at it as a homicide,” he said at an impromptu news briefing at police department headquarters.

Ater did not release the victim’s name. He said the victim lives in the apartment complex, but not in the unit where police found him.
Two men who live in the apartment complex, who were stopped by police earlier in the afternoon on First Street, a couple of blocks from the apartment, because they were carrying what Ater said were “AR-style weapons, smaller firearms,” have been questioned in the slaying.
Ater said police determined the two men were carrying the firearms legally.
They are not considered suspects, he said, and it is too early in the investigation to say whether the two men are connected to the deadly shooting.
Police officers called to the apartment complex in the 300 block of Taffy Court found five or more people in the apartment and the victim dead of a gunshot wound, the chief said.
Police are interviewing all of them, he said.
Where the male was wounded has yet to be determined, he said, and police were waiting for a search warrant before they and Darke County Sheriff’s detectives, who are assisting in the investigation, could enter the apartment.
