VANDALIA -- UPDATE @ 6:25 p.m. -- Detectives are interviewing a man and woman at a hospital to determine what happened at the Super 8 hotel that left the man suffering from multiple stab wounds to his leg.

Vandalia police Sgt. Todd Flynn said a woman who identified herself as the man's girlfriend said they had been fighting.

She was found at a KFC restaurant near the hotel and she was suffering from several cuts and gashes, wounds to her head and face, Flynn said.

Police aren't sure who the aggressor was, the sergeant said. There were no witnesses.

Police were called to the hotel on East National Road on a reported felonious assault. Both people. believed to be in their 30s, were conscious when medical personnel took them to a hospital, Flynn said.

He did not have information about the condition of either person.

Flynn said the woman is believed to be from Kentucky and the man is from India and is in this country on a work visa.

"He was losing a lot of blood from a leg injury," the sergeant said about the man, who police found in a hotel room when they and medic units arrived on scene.

"It's a pretty bloody crime scene. We're going to have to sift through it to see what the evidence shows."

Detectives were waiting for a warrant to search the hotel room.
