A mother and father of a 3-year-old boy are being questioned by detectives after a domestic issue between the two led officers to two locations, including a brief standoff on Hoover Avenue in Dayton.

A child, who was reportedly taken from a house during an altercation between the mother and father on Ernroe Drive, was found with father who was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. on Hoover Avenue.

“Due to some of the allegations that were made, some of the past history that the officers and detectives found doing some research, we erred on the side of caution,” said Lt. Matt Beavers with Dayton police.

The child is safe, Beavers added

In 911 calls obtained through a public records request, witnesses described the moments that led police to initially respond to the 700 block of Ernroe and later surround the house on Hoover Friday morning.

“She says someone has abducted her son,” a caller told 911 dispatchers after a woman flagged them down on Ernroe Drive around 11:20 a.m. “As we were pulling up, she came to me and said that this is happening … please hurry.”

Around the same time, another witness called 911 after he said he saw a fight involving a woman and a man in the middle of the 700 block of Ernroe. The witness said the fight appeared to involve the woman trying to get the child from the man.

When police arrived to the scene on Ernroe they put up crime scene tape and found what appeared to be at least four shell casings on the street.

Beavers said police however have not been able to verify the shots fired report.

Witnesses said they saw the woman fire multiple shots.

"She was standing in the middle of the street. I believe they were arguing are fighting or something,” the caller told police dispatchers. “She shot about seven or eight times … it looked like she wanted to shoot the baby daddy."

About 40 minutes after police initially responded to Ernroe, officers surrounded a house in the 2400 block of Hoover, where a man was inside the house with a child, according to dispatch records.

“We called in our hostage negotiation team and our SWAT team,” Beavers said.  “Thankfully all parties were cooperative...we were able to get a very quick resolution.”

The child is currently with relatives, however Beavers said the child will be returned to one of the parents at the conclusion of detectives interviews.

“After detectives get done with their interviews, get done with their followup, interview the witnesses, they’ll figure out what kind of charges, if any, will be presented,” Beavers said.
