A teenage girl was struck by a car and suffered serious injuries Thursday evening as she was crossing Valley Street in Riverside.

The teen, who was not in a crosswalk, came out from some parked cars when she was hit around 6:10 p.m. by a Kia sedan, Riverside police Sgt. James Vance said.

She suffered serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, the sergeant said.

The girl was headed to a prayer and balloon launch memorial at the Calvary Open Bible Church, 3741 Valley St. for Stebbins High School student Joe Palmer, 16, who died suddenly May 28.

The driver, a man, was shaken following the crash but was not hurt, Vance said.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected, and the incident is under investigation.
