Police: woman’s body found in Brookville

A woman was found unresponsive in a residential neighborhood Sunday morning and she was rushed to a Dayton hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The victim was in her 70s. Brookville police said officers have talked to a family member of the deceased, but the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will work to positively identify her, according to Maj. Michael Miller of the Brookville Police Department.

The circumstances and cause of her death are unclear, but police said there appears to be no foul play.

Officers received a call at about 6:50 a.m. saying the woman was in the 800 block of Shaney Lane. Brookville police said the woman was discovered by a newspaper delivery driver.

The woman was wearing pajamas, but was without shoes and a coat.

“She was unresponsive and (life-saving) efforts began immediately by surrounding officers,” police Chief Douglas Jerome said in a statement.

Medics took her to Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“We have currently canvassed all surrounding neighborhoods where she was located and have no leads as to her identity at this time,” Jerome added.

Investigators say the woman was not a resident at a local nursing home.

Jerome told News Center 7 Sunday afternoon that early autopsy results found no evidence of foul play. It also showed the woman had been walking “for a distance,” based on the condition of her feet.
