Red Cross volunteers from Dayton head to flooded Texas

The American Red Cross has deployed seven volunteers from the greater Dayton area who will assist with emergency relief in Texas, where historic flooding has been impacting the state.

The organization said the volunteers will be deployed for at least two weeks.

BY THE NUMBERS

Since May 2015 the Red Cross has provided the following to Texas:

- 520,000 meals and snacks

- 500,000 relief and cleanup items

- 24,000 health and mental health services

- 9,600 overnight stays in 124 shelters

- 8,800 cases opened for affected families

The Red Cross has already opened 16 shelters for the families that have been displaced by the flooding, providing meals in coordination with the Souther Baptist Disaster Relief.

Across the country, more than 400 Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to the state to provide relief.
