18-year-old indicted for alleged role in Riverside shooting

UPDATE @ 10:56 a.m. (April 23):

An 18-year-old Dayton man is facing multiple felony charges for his alleged role in a Riverside shooting that left a man critically hurt.

Jawaun McCary is charged with felonious assault, aggravated robbery, trafficking in drugs, tampering with evidence and a weapons charge, according to a grand jury indictment.

McCary is scheduled for his arraignment on April 26.

An 18-year-old Dayton man was arrested in connection to a shooting in Riverside that has left a man in critical condition, according to police.

Officers and medics responded to the 3200 block of Valley Street in Riverside around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a shooting victim.

The victim, only identified as an adult male, was found with a gunshot wound and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, Riverside police said in a media release Thursday.

The victim is currently listed in critical condition, according to police.

Through their investigation, police concluded the shooting occurred at an address in the 2100 block of Harshman Road.

Jawaun McCary, 18, of Dayton was arrested on a preliminary charge of felonious assault and remains booked in the Montgomery County Jail.

A 16-year-old female was also arrested for having weapons under disability, police said.

Police continue to investigate and more suspects could be charged in connection to the shooting.

UPDATE @ 5:30 p.m. (April 11):

We’re hearing there is a second scene connected to the gunshot victim found at the Eastwood Auto Wash and Laundry, 3215 Valley St.

Police, so far, are declining to release any details about a second scene.

INITIAL REPORT

Police are at a car wash/Laundromat in the 3200 block of Valley Street where a gunshot victim was found just before 5 p.m.

The victim has been taken to a hospital. The condition of that person is not known.

Police do have a male in the back seat of one of their cruisers. His involvement is unknown.

Police and a medic unit were dispatched to Valley Street and Harshman Drive about 4:50 p.m. on a report that a gunshot victim was in the parking lot of the business, which is next to a Speedway service station, 3201 Valley St.
