Schools to place levy on May ballot

The Tipp City schools board of education agreed Tuesday, Jan. 27, to seek a 4.95-mill, five-year emergency operating levy in the May 5 election.

The board took the first of two steps needed to place a levy on the ballot. The second step will be considered at a special board meeting scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. The vote Tuesday was 4-0 with board member Scott Dixon absent.

The board has been discussing in recent months what tax issue or issues to seek. A consultant was used in helping the board decide to seek the operating levy, whose primary purpose will be to enhance teacher compensation. The board also had been reviewing a possible bond issue for a new stadium.

The 4.95-mill levy would generate almost $1.797 million a year. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
