Chris McDonald, 34, was working in a 20-foot trench Monday afternoon when it collapsed, according to our news partner 10TV.
McDonald was the only person in the trench at the time and his coworkers were trying to dig him out when firefighters arrived on the scene, said Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley.
A trench box, which helps prevent collapses, was not being used at the time of the incident, Riley said.
On Saturday, 43-year-old Dalbert Burton died in a Sugarcreek Twp. trench collapse at a home construction site.
The collapse was reported shortly after 4 p.m. after a resident in the area found Burton trapped and unresponsive at the bottom of a 14-foot trench.
He was working alone and there wasn’t anything shoring up the sides of the trench, according to firefighters.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the Surgardcreek Twp. incident. It is not clear if they are also investigating the incident in Marysville.
OSHA will take up to six months to complete the investigation, issue citations and propose penalties if violations are found, said Scott Allen, OSHA spokesperson.
