MIDDLETOWN — Students interested in earning their GED or preparing to enroll in a nursing program have two new options from the Middletown Adult Education Program.
Starting today, Jan. 30, a free GED lab will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to allow students to attend at times that fit their schedules. Students can drop in anytime during the available hours at the Manchester School, 4420 Manchester Road, Middletown.
Principal Rose Marie Stiehl said the demand for flexible and self-directed courses have grown as people juggle going back to school with work and home schedules.
“This is a lab where they can work at their own pace on their schedule,” Stiehl said. “An individual plan will be developed for each student depending on his or her needs, and both a math and English teacher will be available during these hours to give individual attention.”
Free morning, afternoon and evening classes are also available at other times. Child care is available at some morning classes for children ages 3 to 5 years old.
For students interested in studying nursing, Middletown Adult Education has partnered with Atrium Medical Center to offer MED TERMS, a free interactive, self-study computer-based training program in medical terminology. This 60-hour course is designed for training students in the health care field. A $25 fee will provide each student with a medical terminology and anatomy workbook. Students competing the course and interested in entering the LPN program at Butler Tech will be required to take the Butler Tech medical terminology final exam at no cost.
Students may attend the lab anytime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the fifth-floor learning lab in the Atrium Medical Center Professional Building located at One Medical Center Drive in Franklin.
