"This defendant was living with his mother and was supposed to be taking care of her. Instead, he stole her money and used it primarily to purchase porn and sex toys,” said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.
Joseph had stolen over $166,000 from his mother in less than a year. He spend $56,000 solely on pornographic websites.
Joseph also spent large sums of money on sex dolls and purchased finger nails, nail polish, clothing and other accessories to dress the sex dolls, prosecutors said.
His mother was 91-years-old and showing signs of severe dementia, when adult protective services first started investigating the case.
The victim was found to be living in deplorable conditions when adult protective services visited her home.
As part of the investigation, the victim’s finances were looked at by investigators, who found the stolen money.
“Once the analysis of the victim's finances was completed, a search warrant was executed on the victim's home, including the defendant's computer equipment. An analysis of the equipment uncovered pornographic material involving minors,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Joseph will have to register as a Tier II sex offender as a result of the conviction.
