Stacey Lindale Wood, 45, was seriously injured Wednesday after he was attacked by an angry group of people in the 100 block of Cambridge Avenue, according to police records.
Wood, who is labeled a habitual sex offender with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, reported that while walking on Yale Avenue he was jumped by several males and females who dragged him into a garage and punched, kicked and beat him with a tree branch, according to records. Police said Wood was unable to identify any of the attackers or say exactly how many there were. Wood was taken to Grandview Hospital for treatment of injuries before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
Wood is suspected of exposing himself to children on two occasions this week, said Dayton police Sgt. Larry Tolpin.
Police records show on Monday, a 16-year-old female reported that the suspect had pulled down his shorts and was touching himself while looking at her as she walked to the school bus Monday morning; on Tuesday, three children, ranging in age from 4 to 6, reported seeing the suspect expose himself and possibly carrying a knife.
Tolpin said the descriptions by the victims in both incidents match that of Wood. In addition, Tolpin said Wood is a suspect in an ongoing sexual assault investigation involving a female juvenile.
“Based on his history, he’s inclined toward pedophilia. The important thing is the community is safe from him right now,” Tolpin said. Police believe another man, described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, may be responsible for multiple flashing incidents involving adult women.
The most recent incident was reported after Wood was already in custody, at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue.
One person has risen to be a top suspect, Tolpin said, but more evidence is needed before an arrested can be made.
“This particular individual picks out adult females to exhibit himself in front of,” Tolpin said.
