Man ID’d following Tipp City standoff

UPDATE @ 8:05 a.m. (Jan. 19):

The man taken into custody following a standoff in Tipp City has been identified as Tyler Horn.

Horn was booked into the Miami County Jail on suspicion of inducing panic, resisting arrest and aggravated menacing.

INITIAL REPORT:

An armed man who barricaded himself inside a Tipp City apartment was arrested without incident following a standoff with police.

Officers were first requested around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of Maynard Drive to check on a man who might be suicidal, Tipp City Police Sgt. Marc Basye said.

When police arrived on scene, officers found the man had barricaded himself inside his apartment. While police were talking with him, officers learned he had a weapon, prompting a request for the Miami County Special Response Team to respond.

Basye said police and a hostage negotiator talked with the man, and were able to get him to peacefully come out of the apartment, and was taken into custody without incident around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

The man, who police did not identify, was transported to the Miami County Jail to be booked.

No injuries were reported.
