Speed a factor in crash that killed Springboro grad

The car carrying a popular Springboro High School graduate at the time of a fatal crash in November in Cincinnati was traveling 60 mph - 25 mph above the posted speed limit, according to a report released Thursday by the Cincinnati Police Department.

Michael Tepe, 22, of Springboro, and Tyler Stiles, 22, of Cincinnati, were pronounced dead at the scene of a Nov. 10 two-car crash on Cincinnati's west side. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.

The other driver, Michael Riggs, 63, of Cincinnati, and his wife and passenger, Margaret Riggs, 61, were treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Stiles was driving a 2003 Honda Civic when it went left of center Covedale Avenue, near Rapid Run Road, on the border of West Price Hill and Delhi Twp., and crashed into the Riggs' 2008 Lexus.

Stiles and Tepe were football players at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Delhi Twp.While attending school in Springboro, Tepe was a star athlete who volunteered as a swim coach and made the prom court as a senior in 2009.

Police suspected speed and alcohol were involved. Results of Stiles' blood test were unavailable Thursday.
