Sugarcreek buys two new buses

The Sugarcreek school board approved Thursday, Feb. 11, the purchase of two new school buses — a conventional 72-seat bus for $71,417 and a handicap-equipped 65-seater for $78,865.

District Superintendent Keith St. Pierre said this was the last chance to buy buses before new environmental regulations push the cost to roughly $90,000 per bus.

With these purchases, 12 of the district’s 42 buses will be 2 years old or newer. St. Pierre said one of the district’s existing handicapped buses is more than 10 years old and is starting to break down frequently.
