Woman shot, robbed holding baby in Dayton: Teen could face adult charges

A 17-year-old could face adult charges for his alleged role in the robbery, shooting of a woman holding a baby inside an apartment on St. Charles Avenue earlier this month.

The teen, who was 16 at the time of the incident, is facing two counts of aggravated robbery and three counts of felonious assault, court records show.

The woman who was shot called 911 after she was hit by the gunfire while holding her 7-month-old in her arms Nov. 12.

“I do have the guy’s gun it’s in my hand,” the woman who was shot told 911 dispatchers. “He pulled it out on me and I took it from him, and that’s how I got shot.”

The 7-month-old baby was safe and was not injured, police said.

“I’m just glad I got shot instead of the 7-month-old in my hands,” the woman said.

A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 7 to determine if the case will automatically be sent to adult court, Judge Jeff Rezabek said.

The 17-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident by Dayton police.

The woman has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for her injuries.
