XENIA — The curtain is coming down on the Xenia Harley-Davidson Motorcycle mural at the old Buckminn’s building at 45 E. Second St.

That’s because a new mural for X*ACT — the Xenia Area Community Theater — will be going up in the next few weeks.

X*ACT executive director Catherine Bengson announced the change because the Harley mural featuring the courthouse and a covered bridge has been a landmark for several decades. This will give people a chance to take a last look at the mural, which is fading and chipping.

Alan King, X*ACT’s secretary, said motorcycle riders have traveled from across the United States on their “A to Z tours” to have their picture taken in the only town that has a Harley motorcycle mural and starts with X.

An exact date of when the Harley mural will be washed away hasn’t been set, nor is the date of the new mural being put up, but Bengson believes it will be at the end of June.

X*ACT bought the building four years ago and will be sprucing it up with a new door, awning and mural depicting a theater stage complete with a curtain and a sign of the old Star Theatre in Xenia.

Bengson said that fits because of the star logo X*ACT uses.

X*ACT, an all-volunteer organization, also runs the Second Act Thrift Store.

The organization was awarded a Xenia Community Development grant to help pay for artist Keith Hasenbalg to paint a new theater-themed mural.

“We feel real good about the community support and trying to revitalize the downtown,” Bengson said. “That’s what we’re here for.”
